My background

I’m a trained scholar and writing teacher who’s been helping writers hone their craft for the last four years. I hold a Ph.D. in German Literature and Language from Yale University and an M.A. and B.M. in Comparative Literature from Northwestern University. At Yale, I worked as a graduate teaching and postdoctoral fellow in the Graduate Writing Lab, where I worked individually with graduate student writers, facilitated dissertation peer review groups, and designed and taught writing workshops on topics ranging from grant and fellowship writing to the fundamentals of research. I also developed and taught two topic-based undergraduate humanities writing seminars designed to introduce students to college-level writing and argumentation. Both as a teacher and a freelance writing consultant, I have considerable experience working with multilingual writers and a special passion for helping early-career scholars across the disciplines translate their research into a clear and compelling narrative.

In addition to my editorial and consulting work, I am the author of FTM Transgender and Transmasculine Identities, an educational resource for middle and high school students forthcoming in 2023 from Mason Crest. Other recent editorial projects include indexing Italian Film in the Present Tense by Yale Professor Penny Marcus and the copy- and language editing of the anthology Forces of Nature: Dynamism and Agency in German Literature, edited by Adrian Renner and Frederike Middelhoff.

I work with the writer, not just the text.

Let’s be honest: writing is hard. When the stakes are high and you’re feeling stuck and overwhelmed, it can be difficult to see the forest for the trees. Add to that the perfectionism and self-doubt that most young scholars struggle with, and you’ve got a recipe for frustration.

Writing can be an isolating experience, but you don’t have to go it alone. I can help you discover and trust your own process so that you can execute your vision with clarity and confidence. Together, we’ll work to develop a toolbox of practical writing and editing strategies that you can take forward into all your future projects. Not only will you broaden your audience and increase your chances of publication, you’ll walk away with a clearer sense of who you are as a writer and a toolbox of strategies that work best for you.

“Aron is precise, constructive, engaging with details, and prompt in communication. His indisputable editing expertise made my writing projects in the past three years something enjoyable and fruitful.”
